Dental Implants
Possible Side-effects and health warnings
It’s easy to get carried away with the dream of dental implants; our smiles are one of the most noticeable features and the idea that we could go into surgery for a day and come out with a smile more suited to someone in Hollywood than the suburbs of Surrey seems like just too good an opportunity to be missed. However, the dental implants procedure is still surgery, two lots of surgery in fact, performed under local anesthetic and it is taking place in a very sensitive area of your mouth. Thus, it still needs to be approached with some caution; there are possible side-effects which involve swelling and bruising which may make it highly uncomfortable to eat or talk for a few days after the surgery; there is also the chance, although this is a rarity, that your body could reject the implant and thus the whole process would have to be repeated again. You should also check with your GP whether you are physically up to going under a local anesthetic. People who have lost teeth from ill health should also be aware that dental implants are not a cure for what caused the problem in the first place.
